ALLEN, Lucille - Rossville, GA resident (formerly of McMinnville) and DeKalb County, TN native Lucille Allen, age 78, was born September 20, 1931 and died October 24, 2009 at her son's residence following an extended illness.  She was born in Smithville, TN, but lived most of her life in McMinnville.  She was a devoted mother, sister, aunt and friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her.  She was there for everyone and showed love to the end.  A cafeteria worker at Magnetek-Century Electric and member of the Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Girtha Jones Barnes.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Roscoe, Charles and Cordell Barnes and three sisters, Marie Rigsby, Bobbie Warren and Cleo Kelly.  She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Mike and Gail Allen of Chattanooga, TN and Steve Allen of Rossville, GA;  two grandsons and their spouses, Eric and Kim Allen of Chattanooga, TN and Aaron and Jodee Allen of Rossville, GA;  two great-grandchildren, Katie and Cody Allen of Rossville, GA;  one brother and sister-in-law, Billy Jack and Alice Barnes of McMinnville and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral service was held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2009 in High's Chapel with Gary McBride and Dwight Knowles officiating.  Burial followed in the Jefferson Cemetery in DeKalb County, TN.

ASTA, Mamie Lou - Lebanon, TN resident and Wilson County, TN native Mamie Lou Asta, age 93, was born December 5, 1915 and died June 1, 2009 at Summit Medical Center in Nashville, TN following a five-week illness.  A homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late James and Mattie Hill McGee.  She was married to Edward L. Asta who preceded her in death February 11, 1984.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, James Asta and two brothers, Richard and Howard McGee.  She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Frank Asta of Florida, Wayne and Ronda Asta of Fayetteville, TN and Ron and Donna Asta of Lebanon, TN;  eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 in High's Chapel with Carl Smith officiating.  Burial followed in the Gardens of Memory.

BARNES, Alma Pauline - McMinnville resident and Warren County native Alma Pauline Barnes, age 85, was born July 19, 1924 and died September 4, 2009 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness.  A homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Jess and Grace Lee Fults Slaughter.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Sherman Barnes;  daughter, Wilma Rhea;  sons, Edward and Lonnie Barnes;  brothers, Hughey, J. E. and Leon Slaughter;  sisters, Laura Smartt, Geneva Smartt and Lodema Slaughter and daughter-in-law, Delorise Barnes.  She is survived by three daughters, Freda Hennessee of Murfreesboro, TN; Marie Caldwell of St. Louis, MO and Deborah Barnes of Murfreesboro, TN;  three sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh and Roxanne Barnes, Terry and Offie Barnes and Charles and Debbie Barnes all of McMinnville;  nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren;  four sisters, Wilma Brock, Frances Butcher, Hallie Warren and Eva Nell Bess all of McMinnville;  brother, Charles "Dud" Slaughter of McMinnville and son-in-law, Larry Rhea of McMinnville.  Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2009 in High's Chapel with Bill Eversole and Jeffery Hill officiating.  Burial followed in the Philadelphia Cemetery.

BESS, Harvey Earl - Rock Island, TN resident and Grundy County, TN native Harvey Earl Bess, age 69, was born August 20, 1939 and died February 26, 2009 at River Park Hospital following an extended illness.  A retired truck driver and member of the Christian Fellowship Church, he was the son of the late Harvey Henry and Ida Belle Myers Bess.  He was married to Wilda Airbella Scott Bess who preceded him in death March 20, 2008.  He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Danny Polson and Diane and Ruble Price both of McMinnville and Sherry and Calvin Hammond of Rock Island, TN;  eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren;  brother, Paul Bess of Altamont, TN;  sister, Debbie Bess of Chattanooga, TN;  special niece, Sue "Susie Q" Sinks of McMinnville and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009 in High's Chapel with Scotty Lawson officiating.  Burial followed in the Philadelphia Cemetery in Grundy County, TN.

BODDEN, Katherine "Peggy" Page - McMinnville resident (formerly of Clanton, AL) and Warren County native Katherine "Peggy" Page Bodden, age 88, was born January 1, 1921 and died February 11, 2009 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness.  A retired architect and member of the Methodist Church, she was the daughter of the late John Clifford and Katherine Bostick Page.  She was married August 3, 1944 to Lawrence H. "Jerry" Bodden who preceded her in death May 19, 1998.  She is survived by cousins, Mary Lusk Paris, Becky Paris and Dave Martin all of McMinnville and Sue Martin and Kathy Mueller both of Jackson, TN.  A graveside service and interment was held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2009 at Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton, AL.

BOLES, Wanda Sue - McMinnville resident and Jackson County, TN native Wanda Sue Boles died February 20, 2009 at her residence following an eighteen-month illness.  A beautician and member of the Day Spring Community Church, she was the daughter of Daffo Lee Scott of McMinnville.  She was married March 6, 1960 to Rex Boles of McMinnville.  In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by one son, Darrell Boles of McMinnville and three grandchildren, McKay Boles, Natalee Boles and Ryan Boles.  Funeral service was held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 23, 2009 at the Day Spring Community Church with Tim McKenzie officiating.  A graveside service and interment was held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Maxwell's Chapel Cemetery with Fred Hawkins officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to Warren County Relay For Life c/o High Funeral Home.

BRATCHER, Bessie Emma - Rock Island, TN resident and Warren County native Bessie Emma Bratcher, age 85, was born October 8, 1923 and died March 5, 2009 at River Park Hospital following an extended illness.  A homemaker and member of the McMinnville Missionary Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Anna Mae Roller Boren.  She was married August 16, 1943 to Elzie Woodrow Bratcher who preceded her in death December 29, 1983.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Freddy Bratcher and brother, James D. Boren.  She is survived by five children and their spouses, James F. and Elaine Bratcher of Crossville, TN, Woodrow Bratcher and Anna and Ernest Martin both of McMinnville, Roger and Geneva Bratcher of Morrison, TN and Louise and Joe David Womack of Rock Island, TN;  twelve grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.  Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the McMinnville Independent Baptist Church with Johnny Haston and Ray Skyles officiating.  Burial followed in the Old Bybee Cemetery.

BRATCHER, Charles Henry Edward - McMinnville resident and Warren County native Charles Henry Edward Bratcher, age 75, was born March 18, 1933 and died March 13, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness.  The retired owner of Bratcher's Nursery and a member of the Bethany Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Henry and Vassie Fields Bratcher.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Charlotte Ann Bratcher;  sisters, Lillie Mae Bratcher and Henrietta Bratcher and daughter-in-law, Brenda Bratcher.  He was married to Wilma Rhea Bratcher of McMinnville.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Tony Lee Bratcher and Gary Michael Bratcher both of McMinnville;  daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Denise and Duane Pritchett of McMinnville;  three grandchildren, Laura (Jonathan) Barnes, Evan Pritchett and Samantha Pritchett all of McMinnville;  step-grandchildren, Eric (Daffy) Self and Kerry (Cissie) Self both of McMinnville;  step-great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jessie and Tyler self and Ethan Price and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009 in High's Chapel with David Costello officiating.  Burial followed in the Brick House Cemetery.

BREEDLOVE, Wilbert Frederick - Painesville, OH resident and Warren County, TN native Wilbert Frederick Breedlove, age 82, was born December 30, 1926 and died May 6, 2009 in Painesville, OH following a brief illness.  A retired foreman for IRC Fibers, a United States Army veteran of WWII, and a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, he was the son of the late George Edgar and Mary Margie Paine Breedlove.  He was married April 10, 1952 to Susanne Stasch Breedlove, who preceded him in death in 2008.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Louise Wright, Billie Jo Witt and Nancy Parker; and brothers, Edgar, George and Gordon Breedlove.  He is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Jerry Dunlap of McMinnville and Melba and Robert Glenn of Walling, TN; special cousins, Kenneth and Lil Kinder of Painesville, OH; several nieces, nephews and other cousins and good friends, Carl, Jane and Jay Mucha of Painesville, OH, Ruth and Ron Bede of Mentor, OH and Aaron Zinkowich of Painesville, OH.  Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009 in High's Chapel with Steve Breedlove officiating.  Burial followed in the Friendship Cemetery with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and the American Legion Post 173.

BRIDGES, E. W. - McMinnville resident and Knox County, TN native E. W. Bridges, age 66, was born September 20, 1942 and died May 7, 2009 at River Park Hospital following an extended illness.  A self-employed woodworker and a member of Free Will Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Fletcher Esco and Edna Ruth Ezell Bridges.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Leroy Bridges; sisters, Helen Justice, Edith Hinkle, Juanita Dupes, Dorothy Smith and Darlene Bridges.  He was married  December 6, 1963 to Virginia Oglesby Bridges of McMinnville.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Tina Marie Bridges of Murfreesboro, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Lisa Bridges of McMinnville; granddaughter, Christine Lynn Bridges of Murfreesboro, TN; and sister, Betty Sue Young of Knoxville, TN.  Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 in High's Chapel with William Eversole officiating.  Burial followed in the Shellsford Cemetery.

BRIGGS, JR., Dr. Robert Cook - Raleigh, NC resident and Granite, OK native Dr. Robert Cook Briggs, Jr., age 93, was born September 8, 1915 and died February 18, 2009.  A minister and teacher, he was the son of the late Robert Cook and LeNora McGehee Briggs, Sr.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Elizabeth Flint Briggs;  daughter, Janet Faith Briggs;  brother, Woodrow Wilson Briggs and granddaughter, Janet Logan Barnes.  He is survived by one sister, Lucille Briggs Boyd of Granite, OK;  one brother-in-law, Logan K. BRYANT, Dorothy Roland - Knoxville, TN resident and Lamar County, TX native Dorothy Roland Bryant, age 96, died April 16, 2009 at Shannondale Nursing Home in Knoxville, TN following a brief illness.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the McMinnville Garden Club, the Daughters of the Confederacy, The Questers and the Eastern Star.  She was retired from the antique business and in her younger years, she was a congressional secretary for Senator Albert Gore, Sr.  She was the daughter of the late James Hal and Carline Sadler Roland.  In addition to her parent, she is preceded in death by sister, Ruth Roland Brothers.  She is survived by husband, James Haskell Bryant of Knoxville, TN;  daughter, Carline C. Bryant of Knoxville, TN;  son-in-law, Frederick D. CANTRELL, James Leo - McMinnville, TN resident and Warren County, TN native James Leo Cantrell, age 94, was born August 17, 1914 and died May 9, 2009 at NHC in McMinnville following a brief illness.  A retired farmer and TN Forestry Serviceman, he was the son of the late Lelland and Delia Cantrell.  He was married to Nell Lane Cantrell, who preceded him in death.  As a child, Leo attended both Berea Church of Christ and New Bybee's Chapel Methodist Church.  He and Nell were part of the New Bybee's Chapel Church family where he taught Sunday School.  He was baptized in the Church of Christ.  In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Zelma and Verbal Cope;  brothers and sisters-in-law, Lackland and Vallie Cantrell and Lavert and Marie Cantrell;  niece, Nadell Grissom;  great-niece, Rhonda Watts Newby;  and great-nephew, Terry Watts.  He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Linda Faye and Tom Fisher of McMinnville;  three grandchildren and spouses, Larisa and Kenneth Parker of Alpharetta, GA, Kristin and Philip Kufeldt of San Jose, CA and Eric Fisher of Austin, TX;  five great-grandchildren, Henry, Olivia and Abigail Kufeldt, and James and Susannah Parker;  three nieces and spouses, Melba and Arnold Watts and son, Tim of McMinnville, Bobbie and W.O. Whitton and son, Jason of Harrison, TN and Nadean and Jimmy Taylor and daughter, Jan of Smithville, TN and other family members, Paul Grissom and daughter, Gayle Caldwell of McMinnville, Earl Cope of Chattanooga, TN, Wendell Newby and family and Denise and Jaren Watts of McMinnville.  Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at New Bybee's Chapel Methodist Church with David Grissom officiating.  Burial followed at New Bybee's Chapel Cemetery.

CONNER, Mary Ella "Nicki" - McMinnville resident and West Virginia native Mary Ella "Nicki" Conner, age 72, was born June 16, 1936 and died February 7, 2009 at U.S. Veterans Medical Center in Nashville, TN following an extended illness.  A homemaker, United States Army veteran and member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late William David and Sarah Kathryn Wilson Nicklow, Sr.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son and brother, Eddie Howell.  She was married March 2, 1956 to Charles "Chuck" Conner of the Centertown Community.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Curtis Davenport of Woodbury, TN;  son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Sharon Conner of the Centertown Community;  six grandchildren, Teresa Bain, Chad Conner, James Davenport, Johnathan Conner, Danielle Smith and Austin Conner;  three great-grandchildren and two brothers, William "Billy" Nicklow of Cleveland, OH and James "Butch" Nicola of Columbus, GA.  Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2009 in High's Chapel with Doris Hughes officiating.  Burial followed in the Unity Cemetery.

GUCKEL, Helen Yula - Helen Yula Guckel, 96, a resident of McMinnville, Tennessee, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2009.  She was born December 4^th, 1912 in Queens, New York.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ernst Guckel.  Mrs. Guckel moved from her Florida retirement home to McMinnville to be closer to family.  She loved to dance and play bingo and was a member of the Congregational Church.  Before retirement, Mrs. Guckel and her family lived in Newtown, CT from 1953 to 1974.  Her husband was a mathematics teacher at high schools in Newtown and Danbury, CT.  Mrs. Guckel worked at the Newtown Bee, the weekly newspaper serving the community.  Surviving are two sons, Richard Guckel, and his wife, Suzi, of Grapevine, TX;  Robert Guckel, and his wife, Izzy, of McMinnville, TN; and a daughter, Elaine Burfield, and her husband, Charles, of Westfield, NJ.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren:  William Guckel, Richard Guckel, Jennifer Porter, Ernst and Mark Guckel, and Caroline and Charles Burfield.  Mrs. Guckel’s nine great-grandchildren are:  Matthew, Katie, Adam, Amanda, Benjamin, Courtney, Samuel, Carrie and Samantha Rose Guckel.

GUY, Freda Lynne - Rock Island, TN resident and Warren County, TN native Freda Lynne Guy, age 47, was born February 6, 1962 and died May 2, 2009 at River Park Hospital following a brief illness.  An employee of Phillips Lighting and a member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Silas Johnson and Wilma Payne.  In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by step father, Ben Payne.  In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Steve Guy of Rock Island, TN;  two sons and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Michelle Hodges of Centertown, TN, Joshua Walter Hodges of Warren County; one daughter, Sethly Hodges of Warren County;  four grandchildren, Samantha, Joshua, Dominic and Jackson Hodges;  one brother, Blake Johnson of McMinnville;  two step daughters, Jamie Dukes and Amy Guy both of Sparta, TN;  three step granchildren, Destiney Dukes, David Dukes II and Drew Haley Dukes;  father-in-law, Billy Guy of Sparta, TN.  Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009 in High's Chapel with Ray Weddington officiating.  Burial followed in the Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County.

HALEY, Jennie Lou - McMinnville resident and South Pittsburg, TN native Jennie Lou Haley, died April 30, 2009 following a brief illness.  A retired LPN and a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Bertha Ladd Mayfield.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles S. Haley, Sr., sisters, Frances Wileman and Doris Murray,  brothers, Albert, Raymond, Jerry, Tommy and John D. HANKINS, Jo Ann  - McMinnville resident and Jefferson County, KY native Jo Ann Hankins, age 73, was born July 17, 1935 and died February 20, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville, TN following an extended illness.  A homemaker and member of the Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Beat and Sally Madden Samples.  She was married to Walter Thomas "Hank" Hankins who preceded her in death.  She is survived by four children and their spouses, Diana and Barry Boyd of McMinnville, Pamela and Jacky Fox of Rock Island, TN and Albert Dale "Joe" and Amanda Hankins and Walter T. "Hank" and Mary Hankins both of Louisiana;  seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren;  brother and sister-in-law, Irvin B. and Mary Samples of Bowling Green, KY and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in High's Chapel with Anthony Templeton officiating.  Burial followed in the White Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN.

HARPER, Mary Lee Jordan - McMinnville resident and Warren County native Mary Lee Jordan Harper, age 91, was born July 16, 1917 and died March 28, 2009 at River Park Hospital following a brief illness.  A homemaker and member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Jennie Walker Earls.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Lonnie Jordan in 1951 and Herman Harper in 1982;  brother, Raymond Earls and five sisters, Pauline McDowell, Lottie Webb, Margaret Smith, Pearl Lance and Mary Allen.  She is survived by one daughter, Delores McCormick of McMinnville;  son, Douglas Jordan of McMinnville;  three grandsons, Mike McCormick, Steve McCormick and Ricky McCormick all of McMinnville;  three great-grandchildren, Maeghan Nabors, Morghan Nabors and Mitchell Wiser and several nieces ad nephews.  A graveside service and interment was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2009 at Mt. HASH, Roberta - Rock Island, TN resident and Philadelphia, PA native Roberta Hash, age 80, was born March 31, 1929 and died April 10, 2009 at her residence.  A retired legal secretary, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Henrietta Yeslow.  She was married June 1, 1964 to William Bernard Hash who preceded her in death June 5, 2007.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Clifford Hash and one great-granddaughter, Emmy Eaton.  She is survived by one daughter, Starla Hash Hodges and Terry Hodges of Rock Island, TN;  son, Brad Kaplan of McMinnville;  grandchildren and their spouses, Erica and Bama Strickland, Shalyn and Hugh Eaton, Sharlee and Jim Bob Rymer, Stashia and Todd Bailey, Daphney and Chris Cromie, Jude Kaplan, David Kaplan, Julia Kaplan Hash, Ben and Amanda Kaplan and Rick Kaplan and twenty-one great-grandchildren.  A private memorial service was held.

HOLLIS, James William "Bill" - McMinnville resident and Cannon County, TN native James William "Bill" Hollis, age 69, was born October 15, 1939 and died May 3, 2009 at the St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN.  A plumber and pipe fitter, a United States Air Force veteran and a deacon at the Philadelphia Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Arthur Sneed and Nona Aldena Lance Hollis.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dewey Frank, Sam Mack and A. J. HOLT, James G. "Jimmy" - Funeral services for James Gordon "Jimmy" Holt, 78, of Eastlake, will be 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. A service will also be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, in the Chapel at High Funeral Home, 101 College St., McMinnville, Tenn. (Family and friends are asked to please meet in the Chapel at High's Friday.)  Jimmy passed away suddenly of a heart attack while visiting family in Tennessee. This is something he enjoyed doing each fall once he had finished taking care of his beloved park, Wes Point Park, in downtown Willoughby.  Born Feb. 17, 1931, in Warren County, Tenn., he was the 13th child of 18, born to Walter Willard and Mary Belle (Gann) Holt.  Raised in a small two bedroom farmhouse back in Morrison, Tenn., he lost his dad at the age of nine, and began working in nurseries as a young man, just to help his mother with the family's needs.  He was the first of his siblings to graduate high school and then entered the U.S. Air Force in 1951, so that he could not only serve his country, but attend college while doing so.  He was honorably discharged in 1952, due the hardship loss of siblings in service, and returned home to find work to help take care of his younger siblings so they could finish school.  He came to Ohio and in 1954, went to work at TRW Valve Division, where he retired as a supervisor after 38 years of service.  His love for the outdoors was a big part of his life. Almost as big a part of him as the southern accent that he kept throughout his many
years here in the north. He was instrumental in the formation of the Willoughby Over 30 Sunday Morning Mens Softball League back in the early 1970s. He managed teams, played and coached for more than 25
years.  He continued that love affair with softball well after retiring as a manager, by not only going to the fields to watch local games, but following local teams to tournaments in various states.  He loved the hats of teams from all over, and wore them proudly, as they would give him one of to sport around town. And he did.  In his early years at TRW, he played in the TRW Old Guard softball league and also enjoyed bowling in TRW leagues at Palisades I in Euclid and then with his kids and grandsons in a mixed couples league Sunday afternoons at Wickliffe Lanes.  Many will best remember him as the man who took care of the roses at Wes
Point Park. He loved it.  He loved Willoughby. The charm of the people and the town was close to his heart.  He didn't even let a bout of colon cancer get between him and that park.  He was taking his chemo and still
caring for it, so others would enjoy it in the summer.  That would have been five years ago this February.  He loved when people asked him about his care of the beautiful roses, and had been even known to go to homes
of people he knew just to help teach them how to care for them.  His last day at the park was when he cut them back for the last time, Friday, Oct. 30.  He was already making plans for next spring. The true lights in his life was his family though, especially his grandsons, Michael and Mitchell. He could not have been prouder and would bend anyone's ear who would take a minute (okay, two) and listen to him as he would tell you all about them.  His family will miss him so much.  "Our hearts and our circle is broken." Survivors are his daughter, Cynthia (John, the man he called his "son") Buchanan; beloved grandsons, Michael John Buchanan and Mitchell James Buchanan; siblings, Louise Young, Rosie (J.C.) Bouldin, Rayburn (Martha) Holt, Dillard (Willie) Holt, Helen Roberts and Earlene Vickers, all of Tennessee; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; dear friend and son-in-law's mother, Ailene Meintel; and so many wonderful friends that he cherished so dearly. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances L. (Chapman) Holt; parents; and 11 siblings.  Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitatonio Funeral Home in Willoughby and from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at High's Funeral Home in McMinnville.  Burial will follow the service Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, in Gardens of Memory Cemetery in McMinnville.  The family suggests contributions in his name to the City of Willoughby, c/o Mayor Dave Anderson, for the purchase of roses at Wes Point Park in the spring, or the local Gideon's International, P.O. James Shepherd Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, member of Retired Teachers Association, founding member of Savage Gulf Preservation League, graduate of Vanderbilt University, member of Phi Beta Kappa, member of AOTT, volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Master Gardener and she loved gardening, wildflower hikes and reading.  She was the daughter of the late Joseph Eskridge and Emma Thompson Henderson Elkins.  She was married to Fred L. Hoover, Jr. of McMinnville.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Fred L. JENNINGS, Professor Raymond Oakley - Murfreesboro, TN resident and Warren County native Professor Raymond Oakley Jennings, age 90, was born October 1, 1918 and died September 6, 2009 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Murfreesboro, TN following an extended illness.  Oakley graduated from George Peabody College, served in World War II in the European Theatre and was a retired Lt. Colonel in the Army Reserves. MARTIN, Kimberly Diane Rowland - McMinnville resident and Warren County native Kimberly Diane Rowland Martin, age 32, was born July 15, 1976 and died suddenly March 14, 2009 at her residence.  An employee of Badcock Furniture and a member of the Pioneer Community Church, she was the daughter of Judy McMunn and Jeral Rowland both of McMinnville.  She was preceded in death by one sister, Angie Rowland;  maternal grandparents, Denny and Maggie Davis and paternal grandparents, Jeral and Pauline Rowland.  In addition to her mother and father, she is survived by three children, Dillon Rowland, Bailey Martin and Brennan Martin all of McMinnville;  step-father, Robert McMunn of McMinnville;  two sisters, Tammy (Jason) Snodgrass and Becky Rowland Gibbs both of McMinnville;  special aunt, Debbie Smartt of McMinnville;  several other aunts, uncles and cousins;  nieces and nephews, Lindsay Snodgrass, Kelsi Snodgrass and Dakota Gibbs and step-grandparents, Richard and Martha McMunn of Illinois.  Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009 in High's Chapel with Gary Few and Scotty Lawson officiating.  Burial followed in the Mt. POWERS, Glen Travis - McMinnville resident and Warren County native Glen Travis Powers, age 54, was born November 14, 1954 and died March 24, 2009 at River Park Hospital following an extended illness.  The former owner/operator of Powers 4-Lane Market and member of the First United Methodist Church, he was the son of Bettye Taylor Powers of McMinnville and the late Don Houston Powers who died in 1985.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one son, Lee Powers in 1990;  grandmother, Josephine Powers in 2003 and brother-in-law, Bill McGinness in 1996.  He was married March 13, 1981 to Jackie Greer Powers of McMinnville.  In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two children, Dallas and Dylan Powers both of McMinnville;  sister, Becky Young of McMinnville;  brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Preston and Jodie Greer of McMinnville;  sister-in-law, Jequita McGinness;  several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 at The Outreach Building of First United Methodist Church with Steve Angus and Bob Case officiating.  Burial followed in the Mt. View Cemetery.  Coach Pedro Paz and the 1973-1974 Warren County Pioneer Football Team served as honorary pall bearers.

PRATER, Charles L. - McMinnville resident and DeKalb County, TN native Charles L. Prater, age 92, was born October 20, 1916 and died April 24, 2009 at River Park Hospital following a brief illness.  A foreman with McMinnville Concrete Company for twenty-three years, a fork lift operator with Carrier for ten years, a United States Army veteran of WWII and member of the Christ United Methodist Church, he was the son of the late Jim Blane and Laura Ethel Young Prater.  He was a member of the former Faulkner United Methodist Church.  He was married to Pauline Neal Prater of McMinnville.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Bill Higginbotham of Rock Island, TN and Glyndia Dodson and Larry Bass of Southside, TN;  son, Tim Prater of McMinnville;  three grandchildren and their spouses and six great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Paul Densteadt (Joshua and Hannah), Jason and Melanie Dodson (Torri and Ella) and Holly and Lane Cantrell (Trey and Tucker);  two sisters, Grace Starkey of Nashville, TN and Louise Underhill of Marshville, NC;  brother, Bill Prater of McMinnville and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.  A graveside service and interment was held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Mt. View Cemetery with Mark Carrigan officiating.  Full military honors were administered by the American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

SMARTT, II, Robert White  - Franklin, TN resident and Warren County native Robert White Smartt, II, age 87, was born April 24, 1921 and died April 2, 2009 at West Meade Place in Nashville, TN.  A civil engineer, a United States Army Air Corps veteran of WWII and member of the Episcopal Church, he was the son of the late Judge Robert White and Sarah Alma Roggli Smartt.  Mr. Smartt was a bomber pilot with the 8th Army Air Corps, having completed thirty-five missions.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Robert W. Smartt, III.  He was married to Joan Dudney Smartt who survives.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, William C. Smartt;  daughter, Elizabeth Smartt of Chicago, IL;  brother, John Smartt of Knoxville, TN and sister, Cornelia Hodges of Virginia.  Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 5, 2009 in High's Chapel with Rev. He was one month old.  In addition to his parents he is survived by brother, Isiah Solomon and sister, Kaylie Solomon; maternal grandmother, Deborah Eldridge of Manchester, TN;  maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Roger and Cathy Eldridge of Coalmont, TN;  paternal grandparents, Doug and Teresa Martin of McMinnville; aunts, Rachel Solomon of McMinnville, Cristy Coker and husband Jason of Sevierville, TN, and Kelly Partin of Viola, TN;  a host of cousins and other relatives.  Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at the North Hills Drive Church of God of Prophecy with Dean Northcutt officiating.  Burial followed in the Martin Charge Cemetery.

SOUTHARD, Dorothy W. - Franklin, TN resident and DeKalb County, TN native Dorothy W. Southard, age 91, was born August 11, 1917 and died April 30, 2009 at Grace Healthcare in Franklin, TN, following an extended illness.  A retired employee from Genesco and a member of the Tulip Street Methodist Church in Nashville, TN, she was the daughter of the late Charles Miller and Maude Oakley Williams.  She was married to Ray R. Southard, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1987.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Ray R. Southard, Jr.  She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Lucille and John Gibson of Franklin, TN;  two granddaughters and spouse, Christy Gibson, Cheryl and Randy Jones all of Smyrna, TN;  and three great-grandchildren.  Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009 in High's Chapel with Tom Herring officiating.  Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery.

SPARKMAN, Roy Bert - Doyle, TN resident and Van Buren County, TN native Roy Bert Sparkman, age 76, was born March 10, 1932 and died January 14, 2009 at River Park Hospital following an extended illness.  A retired farmer, United States Air Force veteran and member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Ivey Rennel and Bessie Lee Johnson Sparkman.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Winter Joy Crain and Pamela Louise Sparkman and granddaughter, Tara Danell King.  He was married June 17, 1968 to Sharon Hollis Sparkman of Bone Cave, TN.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Movita and Phillip King of McMinnville, Julie Sparkman of Lascassas, TN, Delma and Eddie Hindsman of Avenger, TX and Shelia Sparkman of Shreveport, LA;  four sons, Dale, Kevin "Cotton" and Thomas Sparkman all of Bone Cave, TN and William Sparkman of El Paso, TX;  fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren;  two sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy Davis of Sparta, TN and Betty Sue and John Mansfield of Nashville, TN and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral service was held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009 in High's Chapel with Roy Terry officiating.  Burial followed in the McElroy Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.

STUBBLEFIELD, Charles Bryan - Mr. Charles Bryan Stubblefield, 77, of Gastonia, NC died Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC after an eight year battle with cancer.  Born in Viola, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Herman P. and Mamie Hall Stubblefield.  Mr. Stubblefield was a 1960 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a MS degree in Analytical Chemistry.  From 1960 until 1967, he was an Analytical Chemist with PPG in Corpus Christi, Texas.  He moved in 1967 to Gastonia where he was a Research Chemist and later Manager of Technical and Marketing Services with FMC Lithium in Bessemer City.  He retired from FMC Lithium in 1997 after 29 years of service.  Mr. Stubblefield was a member of Gastonia Church of Christ where he served as an Elder for over 15 years.  He was the owner of the Stubblefield family farm in Viola, TN that has been in the Stubblefield family since 1814.  As well as raising vegetables on the farm, he enjoyed woodworking, music and genealogy.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Stubblefield was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Stubblefield, Edwin Stubblefield and James Stubblefield.  Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Carolyn White Stubblefield;  son and daughter-in-law, James J. and Beth Stubblefield of Brentwood, TN;  daughter and son-in-law, Jane C. and John Kaylor of Gastonia;  brother and sister-in-law, Herman H. and Becky Stubblefield of Birmingham, AL;  sister, Sarah Collier of Elgin, OK;  grandsons, Grant and Bryan Stubblefield and Johnny Kaylor.  Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Viola Church of Christ, Viola, Tennessee with burial following in the Viola Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Caring House, 2625 Pickett Road, Durham, NC 27705.
