Bessie June Hunter

McMinnville resident and Petersburg, IL native Bessie June Hunter, age 71, was born June 2, 1952 and died September 17, 2023 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital following an extended illness.  

Mrs. Hunter was a homemaker and the daughter of the late Russell William and Edith Jane Lowe Taapken.  She was married to Lawrence "Super" Hunter who preceded her in death.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Bertha Ratleph, Bill Taapken, Jay Taapken, Gene Taapken and Betty White.

Mrs. Hunter is survived by four children, Tara Lira of McMinnville, Lawrence Marion "Bubby" Hunter and Jessica Martinez both of Jacksonville, IL and Conway Hunter of California;  grandchildren, Crystal Schoenmann and Jessie Lira (Christina Ayala);  great-grandchildren, Brianna Robledo, Khiva Salazar and Yacinda Lomas;  brother, Bub Taapken of Illinois and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023 in High's Chapel.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday in High's Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
