Naranja, FL resident and Dyersburg, TN native Betty Jean Prater, age 87, was born September 1, 1937 and died April 13, 2025 at her residence following an extended illness.
A retired cafeteria manager with Dade County Public Schools and member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late J.B. and Gwendolyn Mabry Garrison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Hazel Gamble, Marvin Garrison and Ricky Garrison.
Mrs. Prater was married September 10, 1955 to Richard Lee Prater of Florida who survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by children, Melanie Lynne Prater-Cooke (Jason Cooke) of Miami, FL, Linda Sue Prater-Rubino (Lou Rubino) of Blue Ridge, GA and Michael Lee (Camille) Prater and Deborah Kay Prater-Everett (Scott Everett) both of Miami, FL; four grandchildren, Joshua Prater, Brandon Prater, Brittany Prater and Landon Cooke; great-grandchildren, Brianna Prater and Brandon Prater, Jr.; siblings, Dorothy Bivens of Friendship, TN and Donnie Sue Seratt, Linda Lou Harrison and Melissa Gale Bargery all of Dyersburg, TN and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2025 in High’s Chapel with Brian Reed to officiate. Interment will follow at Ivy Bluff Cemetery in Warren County. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at High’s.
