Betty Jean Powell Short

McMinnville, TN resident and Warren County, TN native Betty Jean Powell Short, age 92, was born December 25, 1933 and died May 31, 2026 at her residence following an extended illness.

A former employee of Hillis Grocery and of the Baptist faith, she was the daughter of the late Lebern and Ruby Matheny Powell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by children, Charles Hollandsworth, Connie Short, Douglas Short and Kenneth Short; brother, Kenneth Powell and grandchildren, Jimmy Wayne Church and Marie Hollandsworth.

Ms. Short is survived by children, Katherine Dianne Lynn and Angela (Eric) Beaty, both of McMinnville, TN; grandchildren, Linda Short, Jamie (Wally) Rhea, Nancy Hollandsworth, Leah (Brian) Maynard, Casey (Kayla) Mullican, Chelsea (Jeremy) Ritz and several other grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren and dear friend, Jennifer Jones.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Friendship Cemetery in Warren County, TN with Jackie Matheny officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at High’s.
