McMinnville resident and Warren County native Charles L. Smith, age 101, was born January 18, 1925 and died July 13, 2026 at Webb House in McMinnville following an extended illness. 

A U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II, a member of the Church of Christ, and a retired Supervisor with McMinnville Concrete, he was the son of the late Arthur and Virgie Simmons Smith. He was married July 4, 1946 to the late Dorotha Jo Evans Smith. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son-in-law, Larry McGregor and brothers, Barton, Lynn and Don Smith. 

At the time of his passing, Mr. Smith was the oldest living WWII veteran in Warren County. He was also the longest serving American Legion Member in Warren County, having served his post for 80 years. Mr. Smith also served as a McMinnville City Alderman, a City School Board member, a member of the Lions Club, a member of Noon Rotary Club, Chairperson of the Warren County Water Utility District and was a former Board Member of the McMinnville Electric System.  

Mr. Smith is survived by children, Larry (Pattie) Smith and Charlotte McGregor, all of McMinnville; grandchildren, Stacey (Josh) Love of Smithville, TN, Nathan McGregor of McMinnville, Laura (Kevin) Dunlap of McMinnville and Leslie (Brian) Cherry of Murfreesboro; great-grandchildren, Cooper Love, Cody Love, Lotte McGregor, Jackson Dunlap, Brooks Dunlap, Wilson Dunlap, Leyton Cherry and Braylee Cherry as well as several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Service will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2026 in High's Chapel with Ray Weddington and Larry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. 

In addition to flowers, donations may be made to the Gospel of Christ. 

Full Military Honors will be administered by VFW post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
