Dorothy "Dot" Mai Miller Slatton

Dorothy “Dot” Mai Miller Slatton, age 90, passed away on October 14, 2021 at Life Care Center of Sparta following an extended illness. Dot was born in White County, Tennessee on October 16, 1930 to Robert Lester and Maude Hale Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 71 years, Leonard K. Slatton; son, Jimmy L. Slatton; sister, Louise M. Miller, and infant granddaughter, Jennifer Dawn Slatton. She is survived by her son, Robert (Bob) K. (Joyce) Slatton of Doyle; granddaughter, Misty Dawn Slatton, of McMinnville; grandson, Robert Justin Slatton, of Charlotte, NC; step-granddaughter, Courtney F. (Matt) Daniel of Franklin, and step-grandsons, Parker and Sawyer Daniel of Franklin, along with many friends and neighbors of the Sparkmantown and Bone Cave Communities of Van Buren County. Dot was an LPN and caregiver most of her life. She worked with Dr. James Moore of McMinnville for several decades. Early in her nursing career she worked at Warren County General Hospital in McMinnville. She also worked for doctors in the Sparta area and for home health companies. Dot had many interests. She was a very talented musician, being a part of several bands playing rhythm guitar and singing. After her retirement she would visit nursing home facilities with her best friend and bandmate, Edith Martin of Spencer, to entertain the residents. Her hobbies included making ceramics, cooking, canning, raising beef cattle and riding her four-wheeler with her beloved dog, Cain. She could basically do anything and above all she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother "Ma Dot", caregiver and friend to everyone she met. She was a member of the McElroy Church of Christ. Burial will be Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at the McElroy Church of Christ Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at McElroy Cemetery for the graveside service at 3:00 p.m. There will no visitation at High's. Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers and staff at Life Care of Sparta, Avalon Hospice of Cookeville, Cancer Center of Cookeville, Doug Goff, the Warren County Nurse Honor Guard and High Funeral Home.
