Edwin Allen Hitchcock passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 16, surrounded by family. Born December 4, 1941, he was preceded in death by his parents, Olney and Robbie Hitchcock, brother Mike Hitchcock, and sister Margaret Hitchcock.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Bonnie Hitchcock. They met in high school, fell in love, and never looked back. Their marriage was the epitome of love and care one for another. It was truly a match made in heaven.
Also surviving are his son and wife Ed and Connie Hitchcock, daughter Terri Talbert, grandsons Casey and wife Lindsey Talbert, and Clay Talbert, and great grand daughter, Vera Ray Talbert. He loved his kids and grandkids with his whole heart, leaving a legacy of faith, humor, and zest for life. He also leaves behind a sister, Martha (Jerry) McGregor, an aunt and many nieces, nephews, and cousins all with whom he was very close.
Allen was a strong man of faith. He was the oldest living member of the Locust Street Church of God. Over the years, he served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Choir Director, and Bus Driver. He gave freely of his time to nurture members of the congregation.
An accomplished businessman, Allen operated Hitchcock’s Men’s Store. He concurrently built up a very successful Murray Cookie route covering Warren and surrounding counties.
Known by many on the golf course as Money, he loved the game, the competition, and most of all his friends with whom he played. Part of the A team, he was several times Club Champion, won many tournaments even going to the Senior Olympic Nationals twice, and inspired his son and grandsons to play the game.
Services for Allen will be Sunday, October 19, at 2pm at High Funeral Home with burial to follow at Crain Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19, at 12pm until time of service at High’s. Donations in memory of Allen are suggested for the Tennessee Kidney Foundation, the Prostate Cancer Foundation, or charity of your choice.
