George "Jim" Harper

McMinnville, TN resident and native George “Jim” Harper, age 90, was born January 14, 1934 and died November 21, 2024 at Alive Hospice of Murfreesboro following a brief illness.

The owner of Indian Cave Nursery, he was the son of the late George Harrison and Lorene Holt Harper. Mr. Harper was married to Charlotte Belle “Dolly” Disbro Harper who preceded him in death December 9, 2016. In addition to his parents and wife of 64 years, he was preceded in death by daughter, Lila Terry; brothers, Lowell “Bub” Harper, Earl Harper and Clifton Harper and sister, Katherine York.

He is survived by daughters, Sandy Tate and husband David and Sharon Childress (Leonard Leggett), all of McMinnville; son-in-law, Larry Terry of McMinnville; seven grandchildren, George (Trena) Tate, Steve (Shannon) Terry, Tracie (Brent) Travis, Bobby Jones, Jr., Tammy (Donnie) Pinegar and Katrina Blake, all of McMinnville and Monty (Carrie) Terry of Manchester, TN; twelve great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Marlene Lynch of Painesville, OH.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Warren County with Chris Pepper to officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at High’s. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery on Sunday.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
