James “Jim” Henry Hutchins of Clarkston, MI and formerly of Rock Island, TN passed away on April 28, 2023 at the age of 96. Jim was born on December 18, 1926 in Walling, TN.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a World War II veteran. He retired in 1980 from General Motors after 30 years of service in their Pontiac Motors Division. He enjoyed the company of his friends and family. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, tinkering in his garage and watching the Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves. Jim and his wife loved to bowl and competed annually in the Tennessee Senior Olympics and he proudly displayed his trophies and medals.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Madeline; parents, Charlie Lee and Beulah Hutchings; brother, Hubert; sister and brother-in-law, Inez and Dalton Girdley; sister and brother-in-law, Mae and Grant Simonds; brother-in-law, Dean Denton and step-son, Jake Mack.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jesse and Pat Hutchins; sister, Sue Denton and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his children, Marti Ley, Dave (Paula) Hutchins and Steve Hutchins and his girlfriend, Gail; step-daughter, Joan (Joe) Vanderlip; step-daughter-in-law, Linda Mack; grandchildren, David Cantley, Jason (Katherine) Ley and Justin (Becca) Ley and two great-grandsons, Ashton Land and Jayden Ley.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023 in High’s Chapel with Jon Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in White County, TN. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at High Funeral Home.
