McMinnville, TN resident and Fairview Community native James “Mousie” Waymon Powell, age 83, was born April 15, 1942 and died June 14, 2025 at NHC Healthcare in McMinnville, TN following an extended illness.
A self-employed carpet layer and a member of St. Mary’s Church of Christ and Bonner Church of Christ, he was the son of the late George "Eugene" and Eunice Aughinbaugh Powell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Melba (Glyen) McBride, Freddy "Butch" Powell, Linda (Robert) Jones and brothers-in-law, Charles Jones and Averal Keaton.
Mousie is survived by sisters, Christine (Paul) Prince and Oma Jean Jones, both of McMinnville, TN; brother, Carl Michael Powell of McMinnville, TN; sister-in-law, Bobbie Powell of McMinnville, TN and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Some of Mousie's favorite memories were playing rummy with his good friend Lonnie.
The family would like to thank Lonnie, Ann and all Mousie's friends at the high rise, everyone at Suncrest Home Health, NHC of McMinnville and Caris Hospice for their care and compassion.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2025 in High’s Chapel with Greg Rains officiating. Burial will follow at Smyrna Cemetery in Warren County, TN. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at High’s.
