James William Sullivan, Sr.

Spencer, TN resident and Van Buren County, TN native James William Sullivan, Sr., age 89, was born August 27, 1934 and died October 11, 2023 at NHC Healthcare in McMinnville following an extended illness. A retired employee of Carrier Corporation and a member of Harmony Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Clyde and Hassie Yates Sullivan. He was married to Louise Sullivan on October 2, 1954 who preceded him in death on September 25, 2006. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Jo Johnson, Lillian Young, Louise Young, Imogene Hamrick and Bonnie Hale. Mr. Sullivan is survived by daughter, Melody Nunley of Rock Island, TN; son, James Sullivan, Jr. of Spencer, TN; three grandchildren, Brandon Nunley of Rock Island, TN and Randy Sullivan and Adam Burgess, both of Spencer, TN; two great-grandchildren, Sagan and Wilder Sullivan of McMinnville; brothers, Clyde (Brenda) Sullivan, Jr., Lester (Sue) Sullivan and Chester (Wanda) Sullivan, all of McMinnville, Bobby (Wilma) Sullivan of Smithville, TN and Danny (Betty) Sullivan of McMinnville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2023 in High’s Chapel with R.C. Christian and Kelly Hillis officiating. Burial will follow at Long Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at High’s.
