McMinnville, TN resident John E. England, age 90, was born October 9, 1935 to John and Ivor Burgess England of White County, TN. He passed away at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, TN on October 28, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 64 years Billie Frances Walden England of White County, TN; brothers, Ivan England (Alice), Talmadge England and sister, Brassie England Young (Jr.).

Mr. England was a US. Navy Veteran on the U.S.S. Saint Paul who were known as the “Fighting Saints.” He was a carpenter, a faithful member of the McMinnville First Freewill Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for more than fifty-four years and a devoted community volunteer, where he loved to help at Fairview Community Center as well as the Fairview food booth at the Warren County A & L Fair for many years.

“Pops,” as he was lovingly referred to, made a great impact on so many lives. He made friends wherever he went and enjoyed taking care of Frances and Barbara. He was selfless, caring and tender. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by wife of almost three years, Barbara Butcher England; sons, Gary (Pam) England and Randy (Neva) England both of McMinnville, TN; step-son, Barry (Angela) Butcher of McMinnville, TN; step-daughter, Lisa (John) Browning of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Jessica (Nathan) Simmons of Cleveland, TN and Victoria England of McMinnville, TN; step-grandchildren, Curtis Frasier (Jenny) of Deer Lodge, TN, Andy Frasier (Savannah) of Cookeville, TN and Albert Frasier (Abi) of Rock Island, TN; great-grandchildren, Mabel Grace Nelson and Neil and Thomas Simmons; step-great-grandchildren, Thoreau, August, Alden, Aiden and Elias Frasier; brother, Ernest (Lynn) England of Sparta, TN; sister, Sylvia (Dennis) Farmer of Sparta, TN; several nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Elaine England of Alabama.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 31, 2025 in High’s Chapel with Kenneth Kirby, Brett Cook and Randy England officiating. Burial will follow at Smyrna Cemetery in Warren County, TN. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at High’s.

Full military honors will be administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Smyrna Cemetery, 74 Cobbs Ln., McMinnville, TN 37110.
