McMinnville resident and Warren County native Johnny Hullon Smartt, age 80, was born June 6, 1943 and died January 31, 2024 at his residence following an extended illness.
A retired truck driver for Tennessee Metal Fabricating and a member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Andy Smartt and Nettie Smartt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Andrew Smartt, Harrison Smartt, Mary Lou Hoover, Tommy Smartt and Martha Bell Turner and nephew, Michael Smartt.
He was married to Debora “Debbie” Smartt of McMinnville on November 8, 2008. In addition to his wife, Mr. Smartt is survived by two sons, Rick (Jean) Smartt of Charlottesville, VA and Brandon (Krystal) Smartt of Cookeville, TN; grandchildren, Ethan Smartt, Emma (Connor) Nash, Ellie Smartt, Austin (Ty) Pike, Mason Smartt and Jackson Smartt; two great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Teresa Verhoestra of Spanish Fort, AL; three step-granddaughters, Lauren (David) Powers, Makeelie Verhoestra and Bella Verhoestra; two step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2024 in High’s Chapel with Rick Smartt officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in McMinnville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at High’s.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels.
