Kiyomi Murai Kirby, age 88, of Morrison, TN and Japanese native died June 28, 2021 at Tri-Star Stonecrest Medical Center in Smyrna, TN following a short illness. She was born on December 24, 1932 in Takamatsu, Japan. She is the daughter of the late Toukiti and Taka Miyamoto Murai and preceded in death by son, Johnny Kirby, and sister, Shizuyo Okamura. She was a retired beautician, an interpreter for Yorozu, a dedicated wife, doting mother, loving grandmother, and compassionate great-grandmother. Mrs. Kirby is survived by her husband of 63 years, Junior F. Kirby of Morrison, TN; children, Charles Lee and Sherry Kirby of Murfreesboro, TN, Susie and Tom Dodson of Miramar Beach, FL, and Jim Kirby and Gerri of Murfreesboro, TN; seven grandchildren, Cristy, Brittany, Brandie, Brooke, Kris, Chelsea, and Courtney; several great-grandchildren; brother, Seiji Murai of Japan; and sister, Misawo Shimatani. Throughout her life Kiyomi embraced the mindset of gratitude and unconditional love. She shared this way of life with everyone she met, especially her children and grandchildren. She was often described as “the sweetest and most kind woman.” She found genuine happiness in preparing rice, warm green tea, and sharing with those she loved. She was a strong woman with an empathetic heart. She carried with her true wisdom that most do not achieve in a lifetime.
