Margie Jean Carter

McMinnville resident and Van Buren County, TN native Margie Jean Carter, age 88, was born April 5, 1935 and died November 9, 2023 at her residence following an extended illness. A former employee of Levi’s, A.O. Smith, a healthcare worker and a member of Greenwood Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Elbert McGuire and Lillian Craig Brock. She was married to Bill Carter on September 4, 1954 who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son, Sharon Carter; sister, Betty McCoy and brothers, Joel Glen Brock and Elbert McGuire. Mrs. Carter is survived by two children, Sylvia Diane (Rex) Anderson and Judy (Wayne) Sullens, both of McMinnville; five grandchildren, Derek (Cyndi) Hogencamp, Stephen Hogencamp, Patrick (Katie) Hogencamp, Scottie (Bridget) Lockhart and Cory Lockhart; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three siblings, Earl (Roberta) Brock of Doyle, TN and Donna Morris and Sam (Lesa) Brock, both of McMinnville; several nieces and nephews and numerous friends and neighbors. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2023 in High’s Chapel with Michael Brock officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in White County, TN. Visitation will be Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at High’s.
