Morris Young

Rock Island, TN resident and Dekalb County, TN native Morris Young, age 84, was born April 23, 1938 and died February 12, 2023 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital in McMinnville, TN following an extended illness.           

A Vietnam veteran of the United States Army, former supervisor with Martin Crating and member of Pleasant Cove Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Classy Bernell and Beulah Daisy Certain Young. He was married to Elsie Young of Rock Island, TN on November 8, 1970. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Victor J. Young and Deborah Annette Elkins and three siblings, Ruth Martin, Glenn Young and Jimmy Young.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Young is survived by step-son, Timothy Davis (Barbara Carlson) of Manchester, TN; two grandchildren, Amanda Elkins and Jason Elkins; brother, Farris (Brenda) Young of Nashville, TN; daughter-in-law, Janice Kirby Young and two sisters-in-law, Georgia Young and Margaret Young.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023 in High’s Chapel with Ray Weddington and Justin King officiating. Burial will follow at Old Bybee Cemetery in Warren County, TN. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at High’s.  

Full military honors will be administered by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Cove Church of Christ.
