Samuel Marshall Boyd

July 8, 1938 — September 24, 2024

McMinnville

Samuel Marshall Boyd, 86, of McMinnville, TN, and a beloved native of Warren County, passed away peacefully at Vanderbilt University Medical Center on September 24, 2024, following a brief illness. Born on July 8, 1938, he lived a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

A lifelong farmer and a retired educator at Irving College Elementary, Mr. Boyd also served faithfully as an elder at Hebron Church of Christ. He carried a deep connection to his community, known for his quiet strength, humility, and generosity of spirit. His life was a testament to perseverance, kindness, and dedication to family values.

Mr. Boyd was the cherished son of the late Marshall and Charlotte Gross Boyd. He is now reunited in heaven with his parents; his brother, Gerald (Helen) Boyd; his nephew, Phillip Boyd; and his dear father- and mother-in-law, Ray and Elsie Slatton, whom he held in high regard.

On June 2, 1967, Samuel married his soulmate, Betty Slatton Boyd, with whom he shared 57 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a legacy of love, family, and faith in the Irving College Community, where they raised their two children. Mr. Boyd is survived by his loving wife, Betty, and their children, Richard Marshall (Sheila) Boyd and Sherri (J.B.) Smith, both of Irving College. He was a proud grandfather to Brittney (Jeremy) Wiggins, Ethan (Ally) Grider, Jalen (Emma) Smith, Jensen Smith, and Karigan Smith, and a great-grandfather to Isabella Wiggins, Betty Grider, and Webb Marshall Grider, who will carry forward his legacy.

He is also survived by his nephews, Dennis (Mary) Boyd and Carl (Karen) Boyd, and countless friends and extended family who were touched by his kindness and wisdom.

Samuel’s dedication to his farm, his students, and his church were hallmarks of a life well-lived. He spent his days nurturing both the land and the minds of young people, always with a steady hand and a warm heart. His deep faith guided him throughout his journey, and his presence at Hebron Church of Christ was a source of strength and inspiration to many.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Hebron Church of Christ with Derrick Stiles and Wayne Cantrell officiating.
