Van Buren County resident Samuel Edward Hitchcock, age 86, passed away surrounded by his family at his residence on Sunday, May 14, 2023. Mr. Hitchcock was a long-time member of McMinnville Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, Haskel and Hassie Hitchcock, brother Tillman Powell Hitchcock, and sister Shelby Jean Hitchcock Bracey.
Samuel is survived by his devoted and loving wife of sixty-one years, Nancy Lorene Hitchcock. He is also survived by sons, Gregory Hitchcock (Patricia) and John Tillman Hitchcock, and granddaughter, Allison Lorene Hitchcock, who he affectionately referred to as “little bit”. He is further survived by sisters, Barbara Hitchcock Foster (Frank) and Maxine Hitchcock, and many nieces and nephews.
Samuel ran a successful dairy farm for over twenty-five years. After his dairy farming days were over, he still enjoyed the farm life which included his hay hauling and longhorn cattle. Samuel was an avid fisherman and when he wasn’t fishing, he was enjoying his view of his farm from his front porch. Samuel was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather and he will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2023 in High’s Chapel with Roland Sharp and David Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow at Long Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 am until time of service at High’s.
