Sylvia Jean Martin Banks

Sylvia Jean Martin Banks, age 86 of McMinnville, TN died August 20, 2025.

She was born in the Irving College Community of Warren County on July 23, 1939. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Eugene Martin and mother, Selva Estil Wanamaker Martin.

She was married to Billy Austin Banks on November 10, 1962 who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Billy Floyd and Donna Carol Martin.

She is survived by nephews, Michael Wayne (Lyndsy) Martin of Morrison, TN, Doug Haley of Nashville, TN and Dennis Banks of Franklin, TN; niece, Christy Michelle (Bernard) Anderson of Murfreesboro, TN; several great-nieces and great-nephews and sister-in-law, Joan Banks Shirley of Bradyville, TN.

Mrs. Banks grew up in the Mt. Olive Community and graduated from Irving College High School and Nashville Business College. She worked at the Baptist Sunday School Board in Nashville for several years. She worked as a secretary at Century Electric Company for many years where she met her husband Billy of 60 years. She was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2025 in High’s Chapel with Harlen Simmons and Jeffrey Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Armstrong Cemetery in Warren County. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at High’s.
